Every single personal computer or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program that communicates with the computer hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, together with any applications that are currently installed on your system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, any application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This goes for both standard website scripts and server-side software such as a media server. If a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, so you'll be able to set up a different software environment on the same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
If you pick one of our VPS server plans, you'll have as many as 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They are all Linux releases and we offer them rather than offering just a single OS, because the apps that you may wish to run on the server could have specific requirements regarding the software environment. Each of these three has certain advantages with regard to the available packages that you could later on install, but what is common between them is that they are really stable and dependable and have vast communities that support them. The web hosting Control Panel choices for the VPS accounts depend on your Operating System choice, in order to provide you with more flexibility. In case you order the virtual server with one OS and you need a different one later, our tech support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in just a few minutes. We also offer you the option to maintain the Operating System on your server up-to-date weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a larger choice with regard to the system environment on the machine as different apps could have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also update the OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
